Special Needs Support

Admissions Policy for Students with Exceptional Needs

Commitment to Inclusion

Our school is committed to providing an inclusive learning environment that reflects the values and standards of American international education. We believe that inclusion enriches our community and that students with exceptional needs can thrive when provided with appropriate support. Admission decisions for students with exceptional needs are made thoughtfully, balancing our commitment to inclusion with our ability to meet each student’s needs effectively.

Admissions Standards and Considerations

Admissions for students with exceptional needs are considered on an individual basis. There are no fixed or generalized standards that apply uniformly to all applicants with special needs. Instead, decisions are informed by a comprehensive review of each child’s unique profile, including:

  • The nature and scope of the student’s academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs

  • The accessibility of our campus and learning environment

  • The resources, expertise, and capacity of our staff to provide appropriate support

As part of this process, an interview with the family—and when appropriate, with the student—is conducted to gain a holistic understanding of the child’s strengths, challenges, and support requirements.

Assessment and Review Process

The Special Needs Coordinator is directly involved in the admissions review process for students with exceptional needs. This includes a thorough review of relevant documentation, such as:

  • Academic records

  • Psychological or psychoeducational evaluations

  • Behavioral assessments

  • Therapy or intervention progress reports

While the school does not conduct or provide medical or psychological diagnoses, the Special Needs Coordinator uses the available documentation to determine whether the school can offer a least restrictive educational environment that supports the student’s success.

Based on this review, the Coordinator provides a professional recommendation to the admissions team regarding the school’s ability to meet the student’s needs within the context of our programs and resources.

Support Planning for Accepted Students

For students with exceptional needs who are accepted, the school is committed to collaborative planning and ongoing support. The Special Needs Coordinator participates in tailoring and recommending support plans that are responsive to each student’s needs.

Typically, this includes:

  • The development of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

  • Collaboration with classroom teachers and special education staff

  • Implementation of agreed-upon accommodations, modifications, and strategies

Support plans are reviewed regularly and adjusted as needed to ensure the student’s continued growth and well-being.

Ongoing Partnership with Families

We value open communication and partnership with families throughout the admissions process and beyond. Successful inclusion relies on collaboration between the school and parents, with shared responsibility for supporting the student’s academic and personal development.

This policy reflects our dedication to inclusive practices while maintaining high academic standards and ensuring that all students are supported appropriately within our learning community.
