Special Programs
At the American International School of Algiers (AISA), we recognize that a well-rounded education extends beyond the classroom. Our diverse range of programs is designed to complement and enrich the academic curriculum, offering students opportunities to explore their interests, develop essential life skills, and cultivate a global perspective. These programs not only support intellectual growth but also foster creativity, critical thinking, and personal development. By providing a variety of extracurricular, cultural, and leadership-focused activities, we aim to create an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them for success in an interconnected and rapidly evolving world.
Experiential Learning
At the American International School of Algiers, we believe that learning does not only take place inside the classroom. Our students grow, discover, and connect with the world around them through meaningful field trips and service learning opportunities. These experiences provide them with hands-on learning, cultural awareness, and a deeper understanding of the subjects they explore.
So far, our students have had the chance to extend their learning through visits such as:
-
El Hamma Botanical Garden – Students explored the natural sciences by observing diverse plant species, learning about ecosystems, and strengthening their appreciation for environmental stewardship.
-
A Farm in Tipaza – This visit connected classroom lessons in biology and social studies to real-life experiences, as students learned about agriculture, food systems, and the importance of sustainable living.
-
Local Bookstore – By engaging with literature outside the school walls, students nurtured their love for reading, discovered new authors, and developed a sense of independence in choosing books that inspire them.
-
Palace of the Rais | Arts and Culture Center – Here, students deepened their understanding of Algerian history, art, and architecture, linking cultural heritage to their studies in social sciences and the arts.
-
Maritime Museum – This experience allowed students to explore Algeria’s maritime history, fostering connections with geography, history, and cultural identity.
-
The Casbah of Algiers – By visiting this UNESCO World Heritage Site, students engaged with the living history of Algiers, exploring its architecture, traditions, and cultural significance while connecting their learning to themes of urban development, heritage preservation, and community life.
Through these experiences, AISA students learn that the world itself is a classroom. Each trip is carefully designed to connect academic concepts with real-world experiences, inspiring curiosity, responsibility, and a global mindset.

Sonatrach Swimming Program
Swimming Program at the Local Sonatrach Pool
At the American International School of Algiers (AISA), we are proud to offer a dynamic swimming program for students from Pre-K through Grade 8. Each week, students travel by bus—just a short 10-minute ride—to the Sonatrach swimming pool, where they receive professional instruction from experienced and certified swimming coaches.
Swimming is not only an essential life skill but also a powerful activity for physical and mental well-being. It enhances cardiovascular health, builds strength and flexibility, and supports coordination and balance. Beyond the physical benefits, swimming is known to reduce stress, boost confidence, and promote a sense of calm and focus—skills that carry over into the classroom and everyday life.
Our students greatly enjoy their time in the water. For many, it’s a highlight of their week—an opportunity to be active, learn new skills, and have fun with their peers in a safe and supportive environment. The AISA swimming program continues to be a favorite among students and families alike, reflecting our commitment to holistic education and student well-being.
